Sweet Cherries

6"x8" Oil on board

A painting to celebrate Christmas!!
This is the first lot of cherries I bought this season. They are so sweet and absolutely delicious, so they didn't last long after I had finished painting them!! I loved setting this up because it only took a few minutes and there isn't much you need to add....the cherries are the stars of the show!!

Thursday's Sunset

6x8 Oil on board

Our sunset on Thursday night this week! This is the view across to the Estuary  from my studio window, we have some beautiful sunsets!! I find them difficult to paint because they almost look artificial, so it's good practice for me. I couldn't let this pass without having a go!

Another little pot my friend gave me...I have painted the turquoise  and pink ones,  this is the last of them. I love them all and will no doubt use them again in my paintings! Blueberry Breakfast

6x6 Oil on board

I haven't painted fruit for a while and now spring is here the fruit season has started.  One of my favorite combinations for breakfast is fresh blueberries and pineapple. It tastes so fresh and is good for you ....I usually have more than this though! I enjoy setting up food for a still life because I get to eat it after....good reason for painting!!

Rocky Slope

6"x6" Oil on Board

Whenever we travel South we always pass this rocky hillside. The rocks are huge and this lonely little cabbage tree is perched among them...I liked the light this day and I love soft clouds, so it was all there for me!

The other one is yellow so I will be using that in a painting at some stage too!!  All proceeds from this painting will be donated to the Red Cross for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Collecting Shellfish

6"x6" Oil on board

$85+s/h
This is a bit of a change for me! I don't often paint people but have become quite interested in what the ordinary everyday person does around my area...so  there will definitely be more to come! This is a scene from the Estuary just down the road from my house. I came across this guy collecting shellfish...people often wade out to collect them at  low tide.

I haven't posted for a few days because I have had family here on holiday, but I've managed to get this one in.  These pins have been sitting in this thimble for a while... I love the little bit of color with the greys and the shadow patterns... another one for my thread series!

Early Evening Sky

The Daily Paintworks challenge this week is the sky....this is the early evening view from my house looking toward the west,  beautiful soft colors, my favourite kind of sky! This was easy to paint... I loved every minute of it!

Sew Ready

6"x6" Oil on board

Back to the threads again! I still have  more of these thread ones in mind as well as pins, scissors, buttons...the list is endless.  For a number of years I spent a lot of time sewing and  every now and again I love to set some up to paint...it's like a trip down memory lane!

Centre Stage

6"x8" Oil on board
I have had this painting in mind for some time but had to wait for the right time!
I have named this 'Centre Stage' for a couple of reasons.... I don't know the name of this tree that grows over at the Estuary and because it sits right in the middle of the others. Every spring it's laden with small creamy white flowers which makes it stand out even more, it's one of my favourite trees over there at this time of the year!

Busy Builder

6"x6" Oil on board

The Daily Paintworks Challenge this week is about emotion, I wondered how I was going to paint an emotion, but it wasn't that hard! It was joy I felt when I saw this Starling perched on our garage roof early in the morning. These birds build their nest in the guttering here every year. I love watching  the busy builders... also it means the beginning of Spring!

Bottled Pencils

8"x6" Oil on board
Some more work tools! I don't use these pastel pencils  much  nowdays...sometimes when I sketch I will get them out. When I was cleaning out my art cupboard I thought it a shame to have them shut away in the cupboard.... so put them in a jar, painted them and  loved every minute of it!

Llama Love

6"x8" Oil on board
SOLD
A bit of a detour from still life! I've been wanting to paint this for a while...I saw these Llamas at a Perth wildlife park when I was on holiday there earlier this year, I think they looked pretty serious about each other... I just love them! They came up close and were quite friendly....I was taken with the teeth and the look in the eyes!

Loaded Brush

$85+s/h
I decided to underpaint one of my boards and had my brush loaded with orange paint, I tested the color on on old piece of board and when I  put the brush down....there was a painting!! I wish they all could be as easy as that, often a set up can take 30 minutes or more! I loved painting this, I think these spontaneous ones are best!

Pair of Pears

6"x6" oil on board
SOLD

I accidently deleted  post...sorry but here it is again!
This is one of the latest bowls that my husband made, it has a dry oatmeal glaze so has no shine to it. I thought it would be interesting to paint...it was...but also difficult to try and get that clay look! I liked the green pears with all the neutral colors around  them.

Posing Pear

6"x6" Oil on board

Another pear! I liked the leaf that was still attached to this one and used the same limited palette as the last painting...cad red med, cad yellow light, ultramarine blue and titanium white. I have found I can make most colors I want with these three, that is not to say I don't use others...it usually depends on how I feel when I start a painting!

Monday, 17 September 2012

A Stitch in Time

6"x6" Oil on board

SOLD

This is another from my cotton series I did a while ago, I had painted half of it and for some reason  never got around to finishing it...finally it's done! I enjoy painting something close-up and keeping it simple. This is a very ordinary reel of cotton.... but violet is one of my favourite colours!   My posts have been  few and far between this last week,  I've been away for five days and my access to the internet was limited...very frustrating.. back to normal now though!

6"x6" Oil on board
SOLD

I have been slow with posting...trying to finish paintings for exhibitions, one of them here at my gallery, Sept 8th-22nd.... six of us exhibiting, 4 painters and 2 potters....will be fun!!
This  part of the Estuary has a lot of  Eucalyptus trees, I like their shape and they look extra special with the hills as a backdrop...a bouquet came to mind when I saw this! It's another favourite area of mine and it's only about 10 minutes walk  from my house!

Monday, 23 July 2012

Mellow Morning

10"x8" Oil on Canvas

$120

Another one of the Estuary! My favourite time of the day is early morning, especially in this area...lovely mellow light, soft cloud... so peaceful. The grasses change colour from day to day depending on the sky...the value changes in the grass are quite subtle. I am still working on colour values, easy in black and white but not so in colour!

Huka Falls

8"x6" Oil on board
$85+s/h
This is one of the sets of waterfalls at the top of the Huka Falls, the final stage of the falls is an 11 metre drop with a huge amount of water that creates a beautiful blue green pool...very scenic and impressive! I have never painted waterfall before so I decided on this study first, I plan to do a larger one of the main falls with better light  later on!

Morning Shadows

6"x6" Oil on board

SOLD

I thought I would enter this for Daily Paintworks Challenge this week, I love painting different subjects but my true love is the landscape... I am always drawn by  light and the shadows as I was with this. Most of the time I paint places close to home that I come across when I am out walking. It is important to me to paint what I feel...this is another from the Estuary.

Ready and Waiting

6"x6" Oil on board

Another from my holiday photos. The image isn't a very good one I'm not sure what went wrong but this is the best I could do! It looks much better in life. This was outside a cafe in Sydney, I had been watching this small dog trying to get his owner to move.... obviously he  was sick of waiting and ready to go!
I didn't paint with my usual palette for this...thought I'd try something different so I used burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, yellow ochre and white.

Wednesday, 27 June 2012

Mother Love

6"x8" Oil on board

$85
Love the way the lamb is tucked in beside the Mother!   These sheep are kept in a paddock along side a walkway near the Estuary. I have got behind with my painting again...other than everyday life getting  in the way, I have been working on other paintings for two exhibitions. I need another few hours in my days!

Sunday, 24 June 2012

6"x6 Oil on board

Some more of my favourite food!  I took quite a while to set this up, initially I had the whole basil plant, but decided on just one leaf so I could sit the tomato in it.... a boat came to mind when it came to the title! I used the same palette as the two before this and I'm lovin' it! So many colours!

Wednesday, 20 June 2012

Hibiscus Bud

6"x6" Oil on board

This hibiscus is from my garden, they flower most of the year and turn a darker orange in the winter....thought I would try the orange again!  I used the same palette as the persimmon and like the range of greys I can make with it! The next landscape I paint I am going to use it...stay tuned!

Sunday, 17 June 2012

Persimmon

6"x6" Oil on board

$85
Persimmons are in season again... I love the delicate flavour of this fruit and the lovely colour. I toned this board orange so I could leave small bits peeking through. This one nearly got thrown in the bin! I find the colour orange quite difficult, but I stuck it out and was reasonably happy with it in the end. I used a limited palette of cad red, cad yellow light, ultra blue and white.

Pampas Grass

6"x6" Oil on board

$85 + $20 s/h

This Pampas grass grows along the Estuary walkway...when the sky is overcast and stormy looking, the grass is a bright green as it was this day. There was enough light in the sky to cast a few shadows on the road as well. Love the sky when it's like this... every color seems brighter!
