Lavender and limes from my garden! Springtime in this part of the world, it is so nice to have warmer weather again. I am finding my way back to painting even though it has been a slow process...still a bit out of practice. It is interesting to note how necessary it is to keep painting every day!

Shed Key

6"x6" oil on gessoboard

It has been quite a while since I have taken part in a Daily Paintworks challenge...but this week I had the perfect subject!  Even though it's black and white it's actually painted with three colors. The old key belonged to a shed in a previous house we owned but I have no idea where the chain came from!!

Rose Joy

8"x8"Oil on gessoboard

I started this painting nearly a month ago and have now finished it after being sick with a virus for nearly three weeks!! I am still finding it hard to get motivated to paint...maybe next week! I haven't painted a lot of roses...  this beautiful pink one was given to me by my very good friend so it had to be painted!!

Leading Lady

.
6"x6" Oil on gessoboard
&90+s/h
SOLD

Holidays over and back to painting!! These were the first lot of cherries I bought this season. I tried different set ups and ended up with the biggest one in the front...I made it a bit larger to add a bit of drama. I'm not sure why, but it reminded me of a stage with the leading lady out in front!!
I am so happy to say I am this weeks Daily Paintworks Spotlight  interview, it was a nice surprise, I never expected it!! A great start to 2014! You can read it here

Curious Cows

8"x10" Oil on board

I love the way cows stop and stare when I stop to take photos! They are very good models...very calm, gentle animals. It is winter here and  this day was quite dull!! I liked the way the black cows seemed to stand out in this light...but I must admit it was a challenge painting the black in this kind of light. This didn't photograph that well and looks better in real life...I tried about 6 times and gave up!!!

Key Mix

6"x6" Oil on board

This mix of keys were left here by my son when he left to live in Australia. I had put them away and came across them when I was looking for something else... I like painting keys and love the bright green bottle opener!! I am still  working on other small paintings for a gallery and drawing each day ...hope to have time to get more daily works done!!

Drawing #49
Apple Family
Pen and watercolor

I have an apple for lunch most days. These ones are this seasons and look brand new, so while they are looking their best, why not paint a family portrait!!

Has Beens

8"x6" Oil on board
SOLD

When my neighbour gave me this bunch of old keys to paint, I told her they were a bunch of 'has beens', so that's how the title for this came about! I like the shadow on the door and I love painting  keys...I have got no idea why they appeal to me, but they do!  I had fun with this one, some were quite rusty and even the cord was old and  faded. I have another one started already...could be a series coming on!!

Drawing #39
Plaits
Graphite and watercolor
This is done from a photo I have had in my files for a long time,  I had thoughts of painting it one day but liked the idea of using graphite....I used a rubber  for the highlights! I am finding all sorts of subjects for my drawings and enjoying the variety, I especially like drawing the back view of figures.

Spoonbills

Drawing # 12
Pastel on felt textured paper

I love these Spoonbills! They wade around the Estuary sweeping their bill from side to side in wide arcs looking for food.  I have painted them in oil but I prefer pastel... I am all for keeping these drawings simple otherwise they would overtake my painting time! Still enjoying them and  have a long way to go yet...but they keep me out of mischief!!

Gull

Drawing #2
Pen and watercolor sketch

I have enjoyed my break from painting after the 30 day challenge...I will be starting again tomorrow! I found this gull on my usual morning walk, he was sitting quietly in the grass along the top of the beach just resting in the sun. Again I added a bit of color...it's nice to  to sketch  for a change! I like this one and I'm going to paint it at some stage!

I had another day of not knowing what to paint! I went to the supermarket instead, hoping I would think of something by the time I returned home. It worked! Coastguard

Day Twenty-Seven-30 Paintings in 30 Days
6"x8" Oil on board

I took this photo yesterday just before I saw the gull...this is one of our  coastguard search and rescue boats and there had evidently been a call out to rescue someone because the crew were rushing to get on the boat! It was all very quick, then they were on their way! It's the first time I've ever seen this happen. All the crew members are volunteers and do a fantastic job saving lives!!
