Love watching seagulls on the beach, they are real characters...just like a couple of boys on the beach! I have a couple of slightly larger landscapes blocked in ready to go next...I need a change from my small paintings!

This marsh grass is along the waters edge of a big Estuary across the road from where we are camping in Australia.The mud is an interesting red earth color. Still not much time for painting but I do what I can!

I managed to paint this between travelling times! We stayed a few days at Shark Bay on the Western Australian Coast, a beautiful place with golden sands, turquoise blue water and patches of grass...just the subject I love to paint. Happy to get another painting finished!!

My first painting for 2017 at last! It has been a long time since I painted with acrylics... I thought I would be a good idea to get used to them again because we are moving to Australia and will be living in a caravan traveling around. I will use water soluble oils as well but they still take a while to dry. I still prefer oils and will miss them! The upside is I love the Australian landscape and will be able to paint more plein air!! This is about 10 minutes from where I live...a favorite spot of mine with Eucalyptus trees along the waters edge.

A Walk by the Pond

Thought I would try something different today...a little abstract painted with a palette knife. I love the palette knife but have a lot to learn! I walk by this pond most days and the colors vary so much, I enjoyed it so I will be trying more of these! I am going on holiday so it will be next year before there will be any painting done. Pear

This is a very simple  pear study to try out water soluble oils. I have  been wanting to paint with them for

a long time because there is no need for solvent like traditional oils..clean up is easy with just soap and water.

You can use linseed oil to thin them and other fast drying mediums as well. It will take me a while to get used to them  I still prefer my oils!! I think these could be useful  for travel and plein air painting.

Back to flowers again!! We have a waterlily pond in town and  I always take some photos when they are in bloom. To me they are the star of the water garden...so delicate and tranquil floating on the surface of the water among the big bright green leaves. Another of my favorite flowers!! I love the way this is in shadow.

Spoonbill

The birds have taken over again! This is the first painting of three... the next in line is a goose. I never get tired of painting these spoonbills, they are so elegant the way they wade in the shallow water. This one stood knee deep in the water while I snapped the photo... I love them!

Reed Reflections

The first of my Estuary paintings! I never get tired of seeing reeds and their reflections in the water, when it is still  it's almost like looking in a mirror... has a nice calming effect!!

Ordinary People

I was on holiday in Western Australia when I saw this couple at a beach, sitting in the water with their dog trying to cool down. It was extremely hot and seemed like the only way to stay cool...even the dog hardly moved!!

I found this small palm tree close to the waters edge on the beach in Dampier when I was on holiday in Western Australia last year and I've been wanting to paint it for a while. I love the bright green fronds against the blue water!! Very tropical!

I was walking down by the Marina one Sunday morning and saw this boy, doing what boys do, throwing stones into the water....  each time trying to see how far he could throw them! I sat and watched...eventually he stood still enough for me to get this photo. I liked the soft morning light!!

I am still clearing out 'stuff ' so when I move it won't be too much to do. It is taking a lot of my painting time...trying to stay calm!!!

This is another one of the weed in the Estuary....I'm forever fascinated by the changes in the colors of it!  Some of  the clumps are a bit dead looking but the I love the subtle colors in them and the water around them is  a clear blue. I was going to paint another still life today, but saw these two little dogs while I was out walking along the Estuary...that was it! My painting for today!! I loved the way they were trotting along the waters edge together. Life is good when I find subject matter like this!!!

This view looks to the East and is just before an old bridge that is used as part of the walkway across the water.
