Lemons

6"x6" oil on board - click here to bid

It's been a while since I have painted, life has been busy again!! I can always fit a mini one in and I haven't painted still life for quite a while so I was able to use a favorite turquoise bowl with lovely fresh lemons as my subject. This is for sale on DailyPaintworks and there will be another two coming up! The image is a bit darker than in life, I had trouble finding the right light to photograph it.

These were the last three roses I picked this month before the middle of winter. Unusual for any blooms at this time of year! I think they deserved to have a portrait painted!!

Last still life for a while...changing to animals and landscapes! Learning is always continuing, I like to keep improving and changing subject matter seems to help me do that.

Summer Fruits

6"x6" Oil on board

At last I have finished another painting! This is the first time I have seen a lemonade apple and it was not easy to paint!
Some days are harder than others to get going. I lack inspiration. I feel a failure for not painting.  I am bored with the subject, I can't be bothered, it seems too hard...the list goes on!! Well I have a found a couple of simple daily habits to train my brain to associate it with work mode. It is simple...my painting apron goes on first, then I turn on music or a podcast. That means 'work time'! So far it has been working very well, my brain is taking notice!

Port and Partners

6"x6" Oil on board

This  Port pipe was gifted to me from my cousin when I left Australia. Port is a favorite drink of mine so paired with cheese and cherries it makes a great subject to paint! Not that easy and a bit time consuming but a good challenge!

An Apple a Day

This is the last painting until next year! I thought this would be an easy one to slip in before Christmas but NO it was not!! I struggled with it. The apple was ok but I probably won't paint another composition with the spoon placed like this! Terrible trouble with getting the silver spoon to look shiny.

Avocado and pepper from the Farmers Market...more food I love and so delicious together!
I have gone back to painting with oils, I gave the water soluble ones a try because of not having to use solvents but I have found I can use ordinary oils without solvent. I use an odourless medium and clean brushes with sunflower oil. Super easy!!

First cherries this season! They were delicious, as they always are. Still finding it difficult to get back into the flow of  painting, I feel like a beginner again only it seemed easier back then because I didn't know as much. Still too tight for my liking!

Lavender and limes from my garden! Springtime in this part of the world, it is so nice to have warmer weather again. I am finding my way back to painting even though it has been a slow process...still a bit out of practice. It is interesting to note how necessary it is to keep painting every day!

This is one of only two flowers from my Gardenia bush this year, so thought I better paint it while I have the chance! It is a another favorite white flower of mine, the yellow pot was given to me by an old art friend.
