Armed and Dangerous

Drawing #15
Graphite and pastel

I was originally going to paint this in oil but thought it would be good to try another medium....hence my drawing today! As soon as I had finished it  'armed and dangerous' came to mind...I have had my share of bleeding fingers over the years when I used to sew!  I tried using gouache on this at first but was more comfortable with pastel...this mixed media is new to me, but I'm liking the variety!

  1. Karen, I love your art! Subject matter is so diverse and your compositions sing!

Thanks so much for you comment on my blog and on DPW.

  2. This piece is simply beautiful. I'm so glad I found your blog! Thank you for your very kind comment on my post yesterday. I'm signing up to follow you, so I'll look forward to many more beautiful paintings in the future!

  3. Love the way you handled this subject!

  4. I love it! The color and subtle texture. But usually a picture completely covered in pastel is called a painting instead of a drawing - so you are still painting, just in a new medium! :)

    1. Thanks Kellee! Yes you are right about the painting....but if you can see pencil it's drawing, so it's been said. The thimble and needle is actually graphite with white pastel and there are pencil lines but they haven't showed up in the photo! I will have to make sure the pencil lines are a bit darker.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and comments, I love reading them...they keep me inspired!
